So I'm at the self-checkout in the Target on 5th Ave and this lady's phone alarm starts blaring

It was the 'Red Alert' siren from Star Trek, full volume. She was so flustered trying to turn it off that she accidentally scanned a bag of oranges three times. The machine started yelling 'unexpected item in the bagging area' and a team member had to come over. Has anyone else seen a public tech fail that good lately?

Has anyone noticed how these self-checkout machines seem to feed on our panic? The more frantic you get, the louder they yell. It's like they're programmed to make a simple mistake feel like a major security breach.

Honestly, it feels like all our tech is just waiting for the worst moment to fail. My smart speaker picks the middle of a tense movie to ask if I'm still there.

The machines smell fear, I swear.
