Took me 3 years to figure out I was stretching carpet wrong

I used to always start in the middle of the room and work outward. A guy named Dave from a job site in Akron watched me for a minute and said, you are fighting the seams by doing that. He showed me to start at one wall and stretch parallel to the seam instead. It cut my time by about 20 minutes per room and the seams lay flat now. Has anyone else had a basic step like that totally pointed out by a random installer?

Nah, starting in the middle lets me fix wavy spots first before pulling tight against the walls.

Starting in the middle lets me fix wavy spots first"? That is wild to hear.
