Talked to an old installer at the distributor yesterday

He told me I was way too fast on the power stretcher. Said take my time, let the carpet relax. Been rushing jobs for years trying to beat the clock. That one tip might save me a callback on every job now. Anyone else get advice that made you slow down?

Let the carpet relax" sounds nice but I've never had a callback from stretching it tight and moving on.

Man, tell me about it. I tried the "let it relax" approach once on a big living room job and the customer called me back a week later complaining about ripples. You do you, @wendyprice, I'd rather yank it tight and be done.

A 60 foot wall in a living room? That's a long stretch even for a pro. @wendyprice, I can't believe you've never had a callback from the brute force method. I tried that once on a tight budget job and the carpet popped loose at the door threshold within two weeks. Letting it relax isn't about being slow, its about not having to redo the whole job later.
