The foreman who told me to quit negotiating every counteroffer was spot on

At a job site in Austin last spring, an old foreman told me to just say 'no' to every lowball bid instead of negotiating, because it filtered out the bad clients fast. I figured he was lazy, but after I tried it for 2 months, my crew stopped wasting weekends on picky homeowners who never paid on time. Has anyone else found that walking away from haggling actually lands you better work, or did I just get lucky with the market?
