Put down $500 on a career coach and it actually worked for me

I was stuck in this weird rut at my hospital job where I knew I wanted to move up but had no clue how to even start the conversation with management. After three months of just spinning my wheels and complaining to my coworkers on night shift, I finally caved and paid a career coach $500 for a package of four sessions. She made me rewrite my resume like three times and practice talking about my wins in the ER without sounding like I was bragging. Ended up getting a charge nurse position within two months, which came with a $3 raise per hour so the coach paid for itself pretty fast. I still feel weird about spending that kind of money on myself honestly, like it felt selfish at first. Has anyone else tried a career coach and had it work out, or did you get burned by one who just gave generic advice?

Honestly I think it's wild nobody mentions how awkward it gets when your coach brags about their own life the whole time.

My buddy had a soccer coach once who spent the first 15 minutes every practice talking about his own marathon times. We just stood there kicking the dirt until he finally got the hint nobody cared.
