I finally picked the beach over the mountains for my canceled hiking trip

My buddies bailed on our 3-day Appalachian Trail hike last minute because of a forecasted storm, so I had to decide between sulking at home or driving 2 hours to Cape Henley instead. I chose the beach, spent the whole Saturday just reading and napping in the sand, and honestly it was the most chill day I've had in months. Anybody else ever switch to a totally different plan and end up loving it more?

Oh MAN, yes! I actually just read this article about how people who get forced into spontaneous plan changes end up HAPPIER because they stop overthinking everything. It's like your brain finally gets permission to just BE. I swear that's what happened to you. You weren't supposed to be fighting a storm on a mountain. You were SUPPOSED to be horizontal on that sand with a book. The whole universe basically said "nope, you need this instead." I bet you slept better that night too because salt air and sun fatigue are a POWERFUL combo. Good for you for going for it instead of just staying home mad.

Yeah, that "stop overthinking" part is real. When you're forced into a backup plan there's no time to second-guess it, you just go. I think that's why those random days off end up being the most memorable, because you're not trying to force fun to happen.

Yo, that's awesome! I did the same thing last year when a camping trip fell through, ended up at a random lake just floating on an inflatable tube for hours. Sometimes the backup plan ends up being way more relaxing than what you originally stressed about, right?
