Celebrated my 100th consecutive morning walk instead of a canceled hiking trip

I was supposed to go on a big group hike at Red Rock Canyon last Saturday but it got called off due to high winds. So I grabbed my sneakers and just did my usual 2.3 mile loop around the neighborhood instead. When I got back I checked my app and realized I'd hit 100 days straight of walking. That felt better than any group trip I've been on lately. Has anyone else found a way to turn a busted plan into a personal win like that?

Oh man, that's actually really cool about the hidden mural... I bet that kid will remember finding that way longer than a regular airport trip anyway. It's funny how those little unexpected detours end up sticking with you more than the big planned stuff. I've started keeping a list on my phone of random things I notice on my walks now, like which mailboxes have funny stickers on them or where the squirrels always hide their nuts.

That's awesome about hitting 100 days straight. My friend Jess had a similar thing happen when her flight to visit family got canceled last winter. She just took that same day and did a photo scavenger hunt around her own town with her kid, ended up finding a little hidden mural she'd never noticed before.

Hang on, let me push back a little on that. Having your flight canceled sounds like a total disaster, not a fun little adventure. A photo scavenger hunt is cute and all, but it doesn't change the fact that someone probably lost a ton of money on non-refundable plans or missed seeing family they haven't seen in years. The hidden mural is a nice distraction, but it doesn't fix the real problem of being stuck and disappointed. Sometimes forcing a good attitude on a bad situation just makes it feel worse, like you're not even allowed to be upset. Not every canceled trip needs to be rebranded as a blessing in disguise.
