Booked a weekend trip to Portland but my flight got canceled due to fog
Ended up driving 6 hours instead and missed the first night of the food tour I was excited about, has anyone else had a travel plan fall apart and found something better to do locally?

Driving six hours just to miss part of the trip sounds rough, but honestly that kind of thing can make the rest of the weekend better. Sometimes when a plan falls through you end up finding random spots you wouldn't have tried otherwise.

yeah I read this article once that said unplanned detours actually boost your memory of a trip because your brain works harder to process new stuff lol. @christopher943 you're spot on about finding random spots, that's how I stumbled on the best diner in Vermont last year.

My family took a wrong turn on a back road in Tennessee once and ended up at this tiny general store run by an older couple who sold the best fried pies I've ever had. They even gave us directions to a hidden waterfall nearby that wasn't on any map, total luck. @derek_perez that article about detours makes sense because I can still taste those apple pies clear as day but I barely remember the highway stretches. The brain definitely perks up when you go off script.
