My grandpa's old shop notebook had a page where he wrote 'glue costs more than wood' in 1982

Found it while cleaning out his basement in Toledo, and he'd calculated it for a big kitchen job. Anyone else run into a cost ratio that flipped your thinking on materials?

Check the date again, 1982? That was before the big price jumps on lumber. I can't believe glue was the bigger cost even back then. What kind was he using, some crazy marine epoxy?

Actually the price of yellow glue was around $30 a gallon in the early 80s. That's like $100 today with inflation. For a big project needing multiple gallons, it really added up fast.

I mean glue is still cheap if you buy in bulk.
