Warning: That fancy boning knife set from the fancy online store was junk
Spent $180 on a 5-piece set from some brand I saw on Instagram. The first pork shoulder I tried to break down the blade chipped before I hit the bone. By the third week the handles started cracking. Anyone else get burned by those flashy knife sets that look nice but can't hold an edge?

Instagram ads are just polished junk that fall apart fast.

@uma_ellis is right, those Instagram ads really are just polished junk. I used to think those flashy sets were a step up from my old kitchen knives, but man was I wrong. I ordered a 6-piece set from a brand that popped up in my feed every day, and the chef's knife actually bent on a sweet potato after two weeks. The handle on the paring knife started getting loose before I even finished prepping one meal. It definitely changed how I look at those shiny ads now.

@uma_ellis makes a fair point about junk ads, but I've had a couple of decent finds from Instagram too. That chef's knife bending on a sweet potato sounds rough, but I've gotten a good set of kitchen shears and a nice cutting board from ads that actually held up. Guess it's hit or miss depending on the brand you pick.
