Hit 500 pounds of trim waste in a single week and it stung bad
I broke down my numbers after a busy holiday week and realized I tossed out 500 pounds of scrap that could have been sold as grind or stock. That's almost a full days worth of product just going in the bin. Anyone else track their trim waste and find a number that made you rethink your cutting approach?

My buddy Vinny runs a small shop near Tacoma and he started weighing his trim after every shift last month. @noahmartin is right about switching to profit tracking because when Vinny saw he was trashing $900 a week in full trim he completely changed his trimming crew's cutting depth. Now they only take off what's absolutely necessary and his waste bin is down to under 60 pounds a week.

Wait, you're telling me Vinny was basically throwing away almost a grand a week in trim that could've been sold? That's like setting your money on fire to stay warm. I bet when he saw that number he probably wanted to crawl under his desk and cry, or maybe throw his scale out the window. I don't track my waste that closely because I'm scared I'd find out I'm basically just running a very expensive compost operation. But hey, at least his crew is probably a lot more careful with those scissors now, right?
