Warning: my friend's one comment about my monthly spread threw off my whole system

My buddy Dave looked at my April layout and said 'why do you need 8 collections for a single month' and I realized I've been treating my journal like a to-do list for every random thought instead of actually tracking what matters, has anyone else had someone call them out on overcomplicating their spreads?

Oh man, the 8 collections thing hits so close to home. I once had a whole "Coins I Found on the Sidewalk" collection in my monthly spread. Yeah, one coin. I tracked it for three months. Dave might be onto something here, because I also had a "Birds I Saw at Lunch" tracker that was literally just "pigeon, pigeon, sparrow, pigeon" for an entire week. I think we get so caught up in making our journals look productive that we forget they're supposed to help us, not become another chore.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think having a single coin tracker for three months is that big of a deal. People get really dramatic about bullet journaling rules like Dave's when the whole point is just whatever works for you. @the_xena the pigeon tracker honestly sounds kind of funny and harmless, like who cares if it's not deep life planning. Half the stuff I write down in my own bujo is just silly little lists that make me smile, not some productivity masterpiece.
