Took 4 hours to fix a $12 valve on my irrigation system

I spent half a Saturday tracking down a leak in my drip lines only to find it was a simple pressure regulator valve that cost $12 at Lowe's. The real time sink was digging up 30 feet of buried tubing because I didn't mark where I laid it last year. Anyone else ever spend way too long fixing something that should've been obvious from the start?

ngl I used to be one of those people who thought the same way, just digging in deeper. but honestly seeing it laid out like that kinda made me realize I was just wasting my own time.
