Found out my bank charges $3 a month for paper statements - is that a fee or a nudge?
I was looking through my account fees last week and saw a $3 charge for mailed statements. It makes me wonder if banks are trying to help us save or just nickel-and-diming us into going paperless. What do you all think, is it worth paying for paper or should we just switch to digital?

Is it just me or does it seem like everything these days has a fee attached to it? I had a similar thing happen with my electric company last year. They started charging $2.50 for paper bills and I didn't notice for six months. By that time they had taken $15 out of my account. I called them up and they said it was to encourage people to go paperless and save trees. But come on, a fee is a fee no matter how they dress it up. I ended up switching to digital anyway because I didnt want to keep paying it. But it still rubs me the wrong way that they sneak these charges in.

That $2.50 paper bill fee is exactly the kind of thing that gets me. A bank near me started charging $5 a month just to have a teller help you with a deposit. They called it a "personal service fee" and didn't tell anyone until the charges showed up on statements. It's like they hope you won't notice the small amounts adding up over time.

Had my bank slip in a $2 fee for paper checks last year. Honestly, I'm still finding random charges from five years ago when I actually sent a check - at this rate I'm gonna need a loan just to pay my statement fees.
