Can we talk about the envelope system for food deliveries?

I was blowing like $200 a month on takeout and DoorDash in Denver without even noticing. So last month I tried the old envelope trick but just for delivery apps. I put $80 cash in an envelope on March 1st and told myself once it's gone, no more ordering. I actually cooked at home for 22 out of 30 days and saved $120. Has anyone else tried limiting just one spending category like this instead of your whole budget?

You know, I used to think the envelope thing was just for like grannies or people who watched too much Dave Ramsey. But I tried it last month just for my coffee habit, which was getting out of hand in a big way. I put $40 in an envelope for coffee runs and told myself once it was done, I was brewing at home. It completely changed my mind because I actually went 18 days without buying a single latte or cold brew. I saved like $70 that month and now I'm honestly considering doing the same for fast food.

Ok so you went 18 days without buying coffee. That's impressive but what happened on day 19? Did you cave hard and get like three cold brews in one day to make up for it or did you actually stick with brewing at home after that? I'm curious if it just flipped a switch in your brain or if the envelope method only works while the cash is literally staring at you.

Are you really saving money or just moving it around?
