My cab driver in Lisbon said 'you pay for the view, not the room'
I was complaining about my tiny hotel room that cost $120 a night. He told me to look for pensions in the Alfama district next time, where a clean room with a shared bath can be $35. He said tourists spend too much on a private bathroom they barely use. That totally flipped how I look for a place to sleep. Has anyone else found a city where staying in a specific neighborhood cut their costs in half?

Wait, $120 a night for a tiny room? That's wild.

Check the going rate in that area first. Hotels have been crazy since everything opened back up. Might just be the new normal.
