Booked a hostel bed in Berlin for 12 euros a night, my friend paid 45 for a hotel room

We were there for four days, and I spent maybe 60 total on my bed and a locker. He spent over 180 just on his room. The hostel had free breakfast and a kitchen, so I saved even more on food. Has anyone else found that skipping hotels is the single biggest money saver?

Wait, hold on... 45 a night? That's not even a nice hotel, that's just a basic one. For that price you could have gotten a private room in a lot of hostels. The math is just crazy to me, that's like three times the cost for basically the same sleep.

Lol your friend basically paid for a whole extra trip just to sleep alone. For real though, hostels are the cheat code, especially with free food. I'd only get a hotel if I was trying to impress someone, and that never works out anyway.
