That plant shop owner told me I was killing my fiddle leaf fig with kindness

She said watering it every 3 days was drowning the roots and I needed to wait until the soil was bone dry. Has anyone else had to basically neglect a plant to keep it alive?

Huh, I read something similar last year about how people overwater their fiddle leafs and it causes root rot. A guy on a gardening forum said he let his sit for three weeks without water once and it perked right up. I tried that with my snake plant, figured it was the same logic, and it worked after a few dry spells. Seems weird to be neglectful to help something grow, but I guess plants aren't like dogs that need daily attention.

Wait, so I'm supposed to love my plant to death by ignoring it?
