Just read that some orchids can live for over a hundred years

Found it in a book from the library about plant lifespans. That means a plant you buy today could outlive your grandkids. Who else has a plant they think will be a family heirloom?

Doubt most people can keep a houseplant alive that long. Orchids are pretty but they're not easy. It's a nice idea that won't survive real life.

Wow, my buddy inherited his grandma's jade plant. Thing is legit older than he is, like from the 70s. It's huge now, lives in his kitchen window. He's terrified of killing it because it's basically a family member.

Seriously, that plant is a survivor. Tell him to just ignore it and water it once a month.
