Appreciation post: My wife's weird plant talk actually saved my basil

I used to think her chatting to the plants was a bit much, but after my basil started wilting, she said 'it's telling you the soil pH is off' and she was right. My cheap test strip showed a 7.5, way too high. Anyone else have a plant person in their life who just knows stuff like that?

Wow, I read somewhere that talking to plants can make you notice their problems faster.

Huh, that's a weird idea. But maybe it's true because you're just looking at them more closely. Like, you might see a weird spot on a leaf while you're chatting. Or you notice the soil is bone dry when you lean in to say something. It forces you to actually pay attention.

Ever check the underside of leaves when you talk to them? That's where the bugs hide. I caught a whole aphid problem early that way.
