Hot take: that critique about my pacing saved my book club pick
Someone in my group said my monthly choice dragged in the middle because I picked dense literary novels. Switched to a thriller by Tana French last month, and we actually finished it early instead of skimming. Has anyone else had a reader call them out on something that totally shifted their approach?

Solidarity, that's a tough call to hear but sounds like it worked out great. Getting called out like that can sting at first but it's a gift when it's honest. Tana French is a solid pick for keeping things moving, her books have that pull. Good on you for listening and switching it up.

Yeah the "gift when it's honest" part really hit home for me. My buddy gave it to me straight about my writing being too wordy and once I got past being mad it totally changed how I approach things.
