Old timer at Local 374 told me to stop using a rosebud for preheat

Guy must be 60 years old, been welding since Reagan was in office. Said I was wasting gas and time with a rosebud on 1 inch plate. Told me to switch to a dual flame tip instead. Cut my preheat time from 15 minutes to like 6. Anyone else get roasted by an old head and actually learn something?

Yeah that old timer was looking out for you, no doubt. A rosebud on inch plate is like using a flamethrower to light a cigarette, way too much heat in the wrong place. I switched to dual flame a couple years back and never looked back, saves gas and time like crazy. Those old guys have seen it all and they don't waste words when they see you spinning your wheels. Take the win and buy him a coffee next time you see him.
