Unpopular opinion: I used to think board game nights were just about the game

I'd get annoyed if someone took too long on their turn or didn't know the rules perfectly. Then, at a friend's place last month, we spent 2 hours laughing over a chaotic game of 'Camel Up' and barely kept score. It hit me that the point is the people, not the perfect play. Anyone else have a game where the fun totally overrides the rules?

Oh man, totally. We played Telestrations last weekend and it was a disaster in the best way. My friend drew a potato that looked like a sad ghost, and we laughed so hard we cried. The rules just completely fell apart by the second round.

That game is the best when it falls apart. We just leaned into the chaos last time. Someone wrote "bad hair day" and the next person drew a crying onion with crazy scribbles. Letting go of the score and just enjoying the weird drawings is the whole point.

Ever notice how the best chaos happens when someone tries too hard to be clear? @young.nora, your sad ghost potato is a perfect example. I've seen a careful drawing of a "dog" turn into a spaceship because one person just saw pointy ears. The misunderstandings build the fun more than the original idea.
