My coworker in Phoenix called 'The Bear' just a cooking show, which made me finally watch it.
I binged all of season 1 last weekend and realized it's actually about family trauma and pressure (you know, with the brother's note and everything). Anyone else have a show they totally misjudged at first?

Oh man, same! I thought it was just chefs yelling. Hits way harder than that. What show surprised you lately?

It's a show about a sandwich shop. People are reading way too much into it.

Actually saw a video essay about the show's use of food prep sounds to build tension. The crunch of lettuce or sizzle of meat mirrors the characters' stress in a way you don't notice at first. It's not just a sandwich shop, it's a whole mood built on kitchen noise.
