Just got wrecked by a seized seatpost on a vintage Peugeot

Thought it was a 30 minute job, took three days of heat, penetrating oil, and a homemade slide hammer. Anyone have a better method for steel frames?

Is the slide hammer really the best way though? I mean, I've had way better luck just using a ton of ammonia. The stuff they sell for cleaning works. You pour it in and let it sit for a day or two. It eats the rust without hurting the frame. Heat can mess up the paint or the frame's temper. Maybe it's just me but I'd try that next time before going through all that trouble.

Ammonia, huh? Guess I owe wesley181 an apology.

Ammonia can eat aluminum though, careful with that.
