Heard a client say 'I just want to look like me, but better'

It was during a consultation at my shop in Austin, and it really stuck with me about listening to what people actually want. How do you guys translate that kind of vague feedback into a specific cut?

Oh man, that's such a classic line. My buddy had a client say the exact same thing to him last year. He told me he just started asking her really simple questions, like what she hated about washing her hair now, or if she ever wore it up. Turns out she was sick of this heavy layer that always got caught in her jacket collar. He cleaned that up, kept the length she loved, and she was thrilled. It's all about finding that one annoying thing and fixing it, so everything else just falls into place.

Right? It's wild how often the real problem is just one tiny thing driving them nuts.

Yeah, like Blair's buddy, I just ask what bugs them most on a bad hair day.
