Spent $80 on a digital kitchen scale and it keeps turning off mid-bake
I bought this Escali scale about two months ago because my old one finally died. It was fine for the first week, but now it shuts off randomly after like 10 seconds of no movement. Lost my count on a batch of cookies and ended up with way too much flour. Going back to my $15 mechanical scale from the thrift store. Anyone else deal with a scale that has a too-aggressive auto-off?

Wait, you paid $80 for a scale and it can't even stay on long enough to weigh flour? That's insane. I've had $20 scales that lasted years without that kind of nonsense. Honestly, your thrift store mechanical one is probably going to be way more reliable in the long run.

My friend Sarah had a similar problem with a Ozeri scale she got off Amazon. She was in the middle of making sourdough and it kept shutting off while she was trying to add flour. She said it took three tries just to get the right hydration because she kept losing her count. She finally gave up and bought a little manual scale from a restaurant supply store for like $15 and it's been working fine ever since.
