Heard a baker in line at the store say they never measure anything for cookies

I was grabbing flour at the grocery store and the person ahead of me was talking about their chocolate chip cookies. They said, "I just dump stuff in until it looks right, measuring is for people who can't bake." It made me think... on one hand, that's how you get a unique, personal recipe. On the other, that's exactly how my last batch spread into one giant, flat mess. Is winging it a sign of real skill, or just a fast track to a baking fail? What's your take?

Watched my friend's "perfect" cookies turn into a charcoal frisbee last week.

Measuring is how you get the same good batch every time. That baker is just lucky or lying.

Honestly, measuring fails too, ask @jamesroberts.
