Had to pick between The Room and Birdemic for bad movie night last Friday
I went with The Room because my friend swore it was the godfather of so-bad-it's-good flicks. Three people walked out after the rooftop scene, but the rest of us were crying laughing at the football toss. What's your go-to for introducing newbies to this glorious dumpster fire?

The rooftop scene is the ultimate litmus test for who can handle bad movies. It's like how some people get annoyed by slow drivers in the left lane while others just laugh it off as part of the chaos. The ones who walked out probably take themselves too seriously in other parts of life too, like getting mad about phone autocorrect fails or weather apps being wrong. The football toss though, that's pure magic. It's a reminder that sometimes the best moments come from things that are completely broken.

You know what, this actually changed my mind. I used to roll my eyes at people who said things like "litmus test" about bad movies, but now I totally get it. The ones who walked out on that scene definitely missed the whole point of just letting something be gloriously terrible.

Isn't calling a bad movie a "litmus test" just a fancy way to justify sitting through anything terrible?

I mean, is it really that deep though? Calling the rooftop scene a "litmus test" feels like we're putting way too much weight on whether someone can sit through a movie with terrible green screen and awkward line readings. At the end of the day, it's just a funny bad movie, not a personality assessment.
