Watched a guy in Wichita reflow a solder joint with a heat gun and a penny, and it's been bugging me for a week
I was at a shop in Wichita helping a buddy on a King Air panel and one of the connectors had a cold joint on a pin. The older tech there grabbed a heat gun, taped a penny near the tip as a heat shield, and reflowed it in about 90 seconds instead of pulling the whole harness. It held up fine on the bench check, but I'm still not sure I'd do it on a customer plane. Anyone here actually use tricks like that, or is that the kind of thing that gets you a visit from the FSDO?
