Had to choose between a new $3000 test set or a used one from a shop in Phoenix. Went with the used one and it's been solid for 6 months.

That old gear is tough. My shop has a signal generator from the 80s that outlived three brand new ones. @michael_jenkins39 is right about things being built to last back then. The used market is full of workhorses that just won't quit. Saving that cash for when you really need it is the way to go.

Smart move. I grabbed a used Fluke meter years back and it's still my go-to. Why pay new prices when the old stuff is built to last, right?
