My uncle told me to always use a breaker bar on crank bolts, and I finally listened

He's been a mechanic in Dayton for 30 years and kept saying my 1/2 inch impact was gonna fail me. I blew it off for a long time, thinking my tool was strong enough. Last month, I was doing a timing belt on a Honda and the impact just spun on the crank bolt for 10 minutes straight. Grabbed my old breaker bar with a pipe on the end, and it came loose with one good pull. Felt like an idiot for not trying it first. What other old school tricks have you guys been given that actually work?

Honestly that "one good pull" with a breaker bar sounds like a great way to snap a bolt head off. My impact might take a minute but it's way more controlled.

Come on, a solid breaker bar with steady pressure beats an impact hammering away any day.

Yeah that "one good pull" is exactly how I got mine loose too.
