Criticism from an oldtimer about my brake bleeding technique
A retired mechanic named Bob watched me bleed brakes on a 2005 Subaru Outback last month and told me I was introducing air by pumping the pedal too fast. He had me slow way down and use a slow steady push each time, and the pedal came back firm on the first try. Has anyone else gotten a simple tip like that from a veteran that completely changed a routine job?

Pump the pedal like you're trying to win a street race and yeah, you'll suck air back in like a straw in an empty cup. Bob gave you the secret handshake of brake bleeding - slow and steady wins the race. I learned that one the hard way after turning a 30 minute job into a frustrating afternoon of mushy pedal and cursing.
