I finally hit 500 hours logged in one calendar year on collision work and it kinda surprised me
I mean I never really kept track before but last winter I added it all up from my repair orders and realized that's basically 12 full work weeks just on body panels and paint prep, has anyone else ever totaled up their actual hours and been caught off guard?

Honestly that "no joke" part you said is exactly right. Tbh I felt like I was just doing my normal job and then when I saw 500 hours I was like wait, that's basically three months of overtime I didn't even notice. Ngl it made me question my life choices a little bit because maybe I should be charging more or taking more breaks or something. Collision work just chews up time without you realizing it because you're always chasing that perfect panel alignment or blending a color just right. But hey at least it's a good excuse for why my back hurts all the time, right?

Yeah I read something recently about how shops that track hours like that end up being way more profitable because they catch waste in their workflow. 500 hours in collision work is no joke, that's basically a full time job just in one specialty. You definitely earned that surprised feeling when you saw the number.
