Overheard a guy at the hardware store say his circular saw blade lasted 8 years and now I'm questioning my tool care

He said he just wiped it down with a rag after each cut and never sharpened it, which makes me wonder if I'm wasting money on new blades every 6 months, has anyone else gotten way more life out of their stuff than the box says?

Man I felt this. I've got a 10 inch Diablo blade on my skillsaw that I've had for like 5 years now, just hit it with a wire brush every now and then when the resin builds up. Still cuts clean as the day I got it, I swear people just swap them out way too fast.

My buddy Mike bought a cheap saw from a yard sale ten years ago and swore he'd never spend a dime on blades again... He'd just hit the blade with a can of WD-40 and a wire brush after every project and it still cut through pressure treated wood like butter when I borrowed it last summer. Made me feel like a fool for spending $40 on a new blade every time I built a deck.

@adamk95 nailed it with the Diablo blades. I've got one on my circular saw that's been through three fence rebuilds and a shed, still going strong. The trick with the wire brush is the real secret. Once you get into the habit of cleaning off the pitch after each job, those blades just keep going and going. People definitely swap them out way too fast, especially if they aren't taking care of them in between.
