Just wasted 3 hours on a simple bathroom faucet swap because of one stupid o-ring

I tried replacing the faucet in my guest bath yesterday and that tiny rubber o-ring on the supply line kept popping off no matter what I did. Turns out the threads were slightly different between the old and new parts, cost me a whole afternoon for something that should've been a 45 minute job. Anybody else run into random fitting mismatches that eat up way more time than they should?

Honestly, I used to think all those little rubber parts were basically the same and you could just jam anything in there. Then I spent two hours trying to get a generic o-ring from a hardware store to seat right in my kitchen sink supply line. It was either too thick or too thin, and it leaked like crazy until I just buckled and bought the exact brand-name kit online. Changed my whole view on just grabbing whatever fits.

Usually the old o-ring was just worn down and the new one was too thick lol

Was the replacement o-ring from a generic kit or the actual manufacturer's spec?
