I picked up asking for step-by-step breakdowns on simple tasks

Thought it would help me be more thorough, but it just means I now get detailed instructions on how to boil water. My coworker drew me a diagram yesterday.

Seeking clarity can sometimes lead to too much detail. Your coworker's diagram for boiling water shows that. Have you thought about setting limits on what needs a step-by-step?

Actually that diagram sounds pretty useful for training new hires. Some processes need every step spelled out.
