A question from my friend in Denver last week really got me thinking about what 'anything' means here.
We were having coffee and he asked me if this community was truly for any question, like 'how do I fix my leaky faucet,' or if it's more for the big, open-ended life stuff, like 'what's the meaning of happiness.' I argued it's for the practical, specific stuff you can actually get an answer for. He thinks the whole point is the wide-open, philosophical debates. This was at the Aviano coffee shop on 17th Street. Where do you all draw the line on what's okay to ask?

Totally get that, my buddy asked me the same thing last week. We were just hanging out and he wanted to know if he could post about his weird car noise, or if that was too boring. I told him to just go for it, that's the whole point lol. Sometimes you just need a quick answer from people who aren't trying to sell you something.

Okay but "people who aren't trying to sell you something" is a real gamble, @robinf51. A lot of the quick answers you get are just guesses from folks who don't actually know. Your buddy could post about his car noise and get five different wrong ideas, then waste money fixing the wrong part. Sometimes a pro who wants to sell you a service at least has the right diagnosis, even if it costs. Free advice can be the most expensive kind.

It's a tough balance for sure. Free advice can send you down a rabbit hole, but paying a pro just to hear the problem is rough too.
