Warning: I read that a single mature oak tree can support over 500 different species of insects and animals, which is way more than I ever guessed.

I found that fact in an old forestry guidebook from the 90s my boss keeps in the truck, and it really makes you think about the impact of a removal, doesn't it?

Wow, that's an amazing number... I remember reading something similar about how many birds nest in just one old pine tree on my property. It was in the dozens, which already felt like a lot, but 500 different kinds is just wild. Makes you look at a big tree totally differently.

Right, that part about it making you look at a big tree differently. It makes me wonder about all the bugs and fungi we don't even see that are living in there too. That tree is basically a whole city, with different floors and neighborhoods for different creatures.
