Unpopular opinion: subbed vs dubbed doesn't matter if the story's bad anyway

Spent 3 years watching only subbed anime thinking I was a purist, then sat through a boring 48-episode show last month that made me realize I was just gatekeeping myself. Anyone else ever waste time on a stance that didn't actually improve your experience?

Forty-eight episodes is a real commitment, I did 52 once for a show that was just okay. Switching to dubs was the best move for my backlog, now I can fold laundry or cook and still follow the plot. My rule of thumb is if I'm reading subs and realizing I don't care what happens next, I swap to the dub and see if the voices make it more watchable. If a show is boring in both languages, that's my sign to just drop it and move on. You saved yourself a lot of time by figuring this out early.

Man, I feel that so hard. I spent like two years only watching subbed anime because I thought it was the "real" way, but then I sat through a 30-episode mech show that was basically just people shouting at each other. The subs didn't make it any better, and I realized I was just being stubborn for no good reason. Now I watch whatever feels right for the show, and honestly, some dubs are just more fun to have on in the background. It's weird how we trap ourselves in these little boxes.

People get way too worked up over this stuff honestly.
