Switched from dubbing to fansubs for the newest season and the difference in translation quality was like night and day

Dubbing changed whole character motivations in episode 3 of that new mecha show, but the fansub group actually kept the original dialogue about the pilot's guilt over his brother's death, so has anyone else noticed this gap getting worse this year?

fansubs are carrying the industry at this point honestly. dubbing teams just don't care anymore lol.

yeah i get what you're saying but man i gotta admit some of those old fansub translations were wild. remember when they'd just throw in slang that was already outdated like five years prior? always made me laugh though.

Gotta disagree with you there @amy974, honestly. I think the fansub scene back then had its charm, but a lot of those translations were straight up bad. Remember when they'd translate "sugoi" as "groovy" in a 2005 romcom? That killed the mood for me. Sure, dubs can be lazy now, but at least they don't drop "radical" or "tubular" into a serious fight scene. Ngl, I'll take a clean professional sub over someone guessing at slang any day.
