Showerthought: Studio Ghibli movies have fewer than 50,000 frames per film on average.

I stumbled on that frame count stat while reading a breakdown of how Miyazaki used to hand-draw key frames before digital coloring, and it blew my mind since modern anime can hit 200,000 frames easy, has anyone else found a random fact like that that totally shifted how you watch a show?

Used to think animation was animation, hand drawn or digital, who cares. Then saw a breakdown of the horse carriage scene in Princess Mononoke. Realized every single hoof beat and dust puff was drawn by hand. That stat about frame counts makes way more sense now. Every frame had to earn its place.

Wait... did I totally sleep on how much work goes into traditional animation or what? Yeah that frame count honestly makes me appreciate every Ghibli scene way more now knowing each one was a deliberate choice.

Miyazaki's out there drawing horse hooves while I can barely draw a stick figure.
