Why does nobody talk about how messy whittling actually gets

I picked up whittling last month to get away from screens, thought it would be a calm little hobby. First project was a simple spoon and I ended up with wood shavings all over my kitchen floor for three days. Tried doing it in the backyard but the wind blew my shavings into the neighbor's yard lol. Has anyone else found a good setup for keeping the mess contained?

I saw some guy on YouTube just tape a trash bag to his chair and whittle into his lap. Works way better than trying to sweep up a whole backyard.

Ha, thats hilarious! I've been there too. I tried that method once but ended up taping the bag too high and my shavings just slid down my lap and onto the floor anyway. Now I just sit on a tarp outside like a caveman with a knife.

yo has your friend ever tried sitting inside a cardboard box? my buddy dan swore by it, said he looked ridiculous but the walls caught everything. he finally gave up and just vacuums daily like the rest of us.
