TIL a seasoned installer talked me into trying out glass break sensors

I always thought glass break sensors were overkill for residential jobs, just another thing to go wrong. But last month I had a call back in Austin where a customer's window got smashed and the door contact never tripped because they left it unlocked. The owner swore by his old glass break sensor that caught it, so I finally caved and put one in my own place. Any of you guys actually use these regularly or still think they're a gimmick?

Put one in my brother's place after his garage got hit last year. The funny thing was the sensor kept going off every time his neighbor fired up his Harley, so I had to go back and swap it for a different model. Still, the peace of mind is nice for that room with the big sliding door. His dog also figured out how to push the door open so the glass break sensor was the only thing that really covered that spot.

@sarah818, did the replacement sensor end up being less sensitive to those loud bikes?

Those things are just another point of failure waiting to happen.
