Dropped $200 on a Snap-on ratchet that broke in a month

Sent it back for warranty and they gave me a rebuilt one that feels loose already. Anyone else getting tired of paying Snap-on prices for what feels like overhyped tools?

Man, that's rough, is it just me or does it feel like Snap-on's quality has really gone downhill the last few years? I remember when their stuff used to be the gold standard but lately it seems like you're just paying for the truck to show up at your shop. I mean, getting a rebuilt one that's already loose after you dropped two hundred bucks on the original would make me pretty annoyed too. There's something frustrating about spending that much and still having to mess with warranty claims over and over. Maybe it's time they started focusing more on making tools that last instead of just hyping up the brand name.

Maybe it's the whole business model that's changing, not just the tools themselves. Snap-on used to be a small company that actually cared about mechanics, but now they're owned by a big corporation that's all about profits. I bet the pressure to keep prices high and cut costs on manufacturing is where the real problem is. That would explain why the new stuff feels cheaper even though you're paying more.

Huh, I actually kinda disagree with you there. I've been using Snap-on stuff for almost fifteen years now and my older tools are still going strong, but I think the new stuff is actually better in some ways. The ratchets have way more teeth now and the ergonomics are nicer, even if it does sting paying that truck price.
