Vent: My neighbor nearly set her kitchen on fire with parchment paper

Last Tuesday my neighbor Deb came banging on my door all panicked. She was making chicken wings in her new air fryer and put a whole sheet of parchment paper in there with nothing holding it down. The fan sucked it right up against the heating element and it started smoking and charring. She said she saw some TikTok recipe that just tossed the paper in loose and figured it was fine. I had to tell her you gotta weigh that stuff down with food or buy the perforated liners that fit the basket. Otherwise the paper flies around and can actually catch fire in there. She was lucky she caught it early before it really went up. Has anyone else had a close call with parchment paper in their air fryer?

Didn't something like this happen with one of those cheaper brands a while back? That's gotta be super frustrating for anyone dealing with a smoky air fryer. It's rough when a kitchen gadget you actually like starts acting up like that.
