I argued for months that AI art generators were just copying, but a friend's project in Portland using Stable Diffusion to design custom prosthetics for kids made me realize I was wrong.
Seeing those unique, joyful designs that directly helped children feel more confident showed me the tech's real innovation is in personalization, not just replication, so what's another example where AI customization surprised you?

Yeah, that part about "personalization, not just replication" really hits home. I read about this music app that uses AI to make custom soundscapes for people with tinnitus. It doesn't just play generic white noise, it learns what frequencies bother you most and builds a sound profile to actually help mask it. It's not copying a song, it's making a unique tool for one person's ears. That kind of specific help feels like the real change. It made me see this stuff as more like a custom tool than a copy machine.

Totally changed how I saw AI too. I used to just picture those weird deepfake videos or songs that sound almost like a real artist. But the idea of it building something totally new for one person's specific problem... that feels different. Like it's solving a real issue instead of just making a copy.
