Unpopular opinion: I used to sand drywall until smooth, but a pro told me to stop
Last summer I was prepping a bedroom for painting and spent hours sanding every bump off the drywall. A contractor neighbor walked by and said I was making it worse, that I should just knock down high spots and leave the rest. He said paint hides a lot more than people think. Has anyone else cut way back on sanding and gotten better results?

My neighbor told me the same thing about three years ago when I was redoing my basement. I spent a full weekend sanding joints and then he came by and said I was making it worse by digging into the paper. Now I just knock down the obvious ridges with a 6 inch taping knife and let the primer do the work. You really can't tell the difference once the paint is on, and it saves so much time.

Honestly @leo_fisher, what was the longest single stretch you had to sit through before you finally gave up?
