Thought those spray foam kits were a scam until my electric bill dropped $40
I was dead set against buying a DIY spray foam kit for my crawlspace. Figured it was just overpriced cans of noise that wouldn't seal anything. My buddy who does insulation work finally talked me into trying it on a 10x12 section near the rim joist. After one New Mexico winter where my furnace barely cycled on, I went back and did the whole perimeter. The difference was night and day, no more drafty floors. Has anyone else gotten better results from foam than they expected?

And the weirdest thing nobody mentions is how much less dust you get. I sealed up my attic hatch with that foam and suddenly stopped seeing those little drifts of pink fiberglass dust on my nightstand every week. Plus my window sills don't get that black crusty stuff near the bottom anymore. It's like the foam is filtering my air just by stopping the drafts from pulling crap through the walls. Didn't expect my house to get cleaner when I bought the kit.

Oh man, the "black crusty stuff" near the window sills, that really got me. I thought that was just something my old house did, like a weird signature from the 1970s or something. It's such a specific kind of grime, almost feels greasy and it's impossible to clean off. You mentioning the pink fiberglass dust too, that's the exact stuff I used to find on my nightstand, it would get in my coffee mug and everything. It's wild how you don't realize the air is just slowly carrying all this crap from inside the walls until you stop it. Makes you wonder what else was floating around that you couldn't even see.
