Hired a general contractor in Rio Rancho and learned why I'll never use one again

Last summer I paid a GC named Dave $8,000 to handle my kitchen renovation. He subbed out the tile work to a guy who showed up hungover and grouted my backsplash with the wrong color - it was supposed to be warm gray, ended up baby blue. Dave wouldn't even refund me for the tile labor because he said it was 'my fault for not being specific enough.' From now on I'm hiring individual trades myself after getting my own bids. Has anyone else had a GC screw them over with bad subs?

Holy crap, baby blue grout for a warm gray backsplash? That's wild, I can't believe he blamed you for not being specific enough over something that basic.

Big time, it's like the guy had zero sense of color matching and just wanted to pass the blame when it went wrong. That's the kind of move that makes people triple check every little detail with contractors just to cover their own back.

Yeah @taylorc40, sounds like that contractor needed a color wheel and a reality check.
